STATE COLLEGE -Adalberto Santos smashed two wall-ball doubles in his first game as a State College Spike, and Matt Skirving's RBI single in the eighth pushed across the eventual game-winning run as the Spikes earned their first win, 8-7, over the Batavia Muckdogs on Monday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Santos, the 35th-round pick of the Pirates in this year's Major League Baseball Draft, doubled off the wall in his very first at-bat with State College (1-3), then hit a bases-loaded double to knock in three runs in the sixth inning.

The Oregon State alum also scored the tying run during the Spikes' eighth-inning comeback. Down two runs entering the bottom half, the Spikes got jump-started by Chase Lyles' one-out triple. After Santos walked, Kelson Brown singled in Lyles. Batavia (2-2) reliever David Kington (0-1) then uncorked a wild pitch that scored Santos from third, leading to Skirving's heroics.

Lyles' triple capped off a 3-for-4 night, during which the Northwestern State alum scored three times. Brown and Andury Acevedo also had multi-hit games.

The Muckdogs got off to a blazing start in the game, as leadoff hitter Nicholas Longmire sent a solo home run to the Left Field Picnic Pavilion in the top of the first off of Kevin Decker. Longmire ended the game 4-for-5 with the homer, a triple, and four runs batted in.

Sandobal Septimo (1-0) earned the win for the Spikes. Septimo came in with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth and allowed back-to-back two-run base hits. However, the Dominican right-hander persevered and retired the last six hitters he faced, including two by

Kington took the loss after allowing the Spikes' three eighth-inning runs in his only frame on the mound. The righty allowed four hits, struck out two and walked one.

Tuesday, the Spikes and Muckdogs meet again at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the second game of their three-game series. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05 p.m. State College will send right-hander Tyler Waldron to the mound. Waldron, just added to the Spikes' roster on Monday, was the fifth-round draft choice of the Pirates three weeks ago out of Oregon State. The right-hander went 4-6 with three saves in 61 innings of work.

Batavia will go with right-hander Travis Lawler on the mound for his first start of the season.
