Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (36-26) scored early in a 10-1 victory over the Mobile BayBears (33-28) in game one of a Saturday doubleheader before nine first inning runs put Mobile ahead for good in game two in a 10-0 win over the Suns before a crowd of 7,293 Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds.

The doubleheader split combined with Montgomery's 10-inning win over Birmingham moved Jacksonville out of first place for the first time since April 20. The Suns are currently a half-game behind the Biscuits in the South Division race with eight games remaining.

In game one Tom Koehler (7-1) picked up the winning decision, while BayBears starter Tom Layne (6-4) fell in the loss.

The Suns jumped to an early lead in game one against BayBears starter Tom Layne. With two out, the Suns produced six hits and drew two walks while bringing in five runs. Matt Dominguez and Tim Torres each knocked in two with singles before Chris Hatcher singled home the fifth run.

Mobile's lone run came against Tom Koehler in the second inning. Bryan Byrne singled and moved to third on a walk and base hit later. Byrne scored on a passed ball by Chris Hatcher for a 5-1 score.

The Suns ran away with the game with a four-run third inning. All nine batters came to the plate as Ryan Curry doubled home a run, Vinny Rottino singled home two and a Lee Mitchell RBI double opened a 9-1 score.

Tim Torres hit a leadoff homerun in the fourth inning, ending the scoring at 10-1.

In game two the Mobile offense got to work early against Suns starter Andrew Miller. The Suns starter was charged with nine earned runs while giving up six hits with three walks in two-thirds of the first inning. After 44 pitches, Miller was relieved by Wade Korpi, who allowed the seventh hit of the inning to bring in the final three runs against Miller. Mobile led through a half-inning 9-0.

The BayBears scored a tenth run in the sixth inning on a Jake Elmore leadoff homerun, ending the scoring at 10-0.

Suns RH Alex Sanabia will face BayBears RH Barry Enright in game four of the series Sunday at 3:05 p.m. ET. Sunday is Bark in the Park day, with dog tickets available for $1.50. Human tickets are available through the Suns box office at 358-2846 or by visiting jaxsuns.com.
