Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

The Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League completed three days of drafts on Wednesday, May 19th. The Jacks added nineteen more elite players to the mix by the conclusion of the 2010 USHL Entry Draft.

Muskegon's first pick, sixth overall, was Casey Thrush of Easton, MD. Thrush is a 6'1", 175-pound left wing who played for Team Maryland U18 in 2009-2010. He is committed to the University of New Hampshire. Thrush is ranked #89 on the NHL Central Scouting list for the 2010 NHL Draft.

The Jacks took Matthew DeBlouw of Chesterfield in the second round, 21st overall. DeBlouw is a 6'0", 165-pound center who played for Detroit Little Caesars Midget Major last season.

Muskegon traded its third round pick to the Sioux City Musketeers for Lansing native Travis Walsh. Walsh, a defenseman, is the grandson of former Michigan State University head hockey coach Ron Mason.

In the fourth round, the Lumberjacks drafted Charlie Taft out of Edina, MN. The 6'1", 174-pound right wing won the Class AA Minnesota State Championship in 2010 with Edina High School and was named to the All-Tournament Team. The coach of Edina is Curt Giles, captain of the Minnesota North Stars from 1989-1991.

After three days of drafts and six earlier signings, one thing is certain, fans won't notice much of a size difference between last year's professional Lumberjacks and the USHL team. The IHL Lumberjacks averaged 6'0" and 196.2 pounds. The USHL Lumberjacks to date average 5' 11 9/10" and 173.2 pounds.

Wednesday's draft picks will join the previous picks next month to try to make Muskegon's final roster for the inaugural USHL season on the Lakeshore.
