SUNDAY'S RECAP

The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Texas Stars, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs now lead the Stars 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals. Center Ryan Russell, defenseman Alex Henry and right wing Mike Glumac lit the lamp for the Bulldogs. Center Warren Peters scored the lone goal for the Stars. Bulldogs goaltender Curtis Sanford stopped 22-of-23 shots for his fourth win of the playoffs. Stars netminder Matt Climie made 27 saves in his second loss of the post-season. Hamilton went 1-for-2 on the power play. Texas was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

MORNING HEADLINES

So Far, Tough Going For Monarchs - Union Leader

Many of the small things Hershey is doing right has Manchester pointing in the wrong direction. The defending champion Bears are playing like the champs. In 11 playoff games, Hershey is 6-0 in one-goal games, 3-0 in overtime, scoring at will at 4.2 goals per game and, now with a 2-0 lead, has given itself a chance to take command of the Eastern Conference Calder Cup finals entering today's 7 p.m. Game 3 encounter at Verizon Wireless Arena.

Bourque, Bears Enjoying 2-0 Lead - Lebanon Daily News

The old overtime magic is still working. Down 2-1 heading into the third period, the Hershey Bears tied the game three and a half minutes into the third period, then wrapped up their 10th victory of playoffs when Chris Bourque scored midway through the first overtime to give the Bears a 3-2 victory over the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night at Giant Center.

Overtime Win Gives Bears 2-0 Lead Over Monarchs - Examiner.com

Chris Bourque scored two goals, including the game-winner at 10:28 of overtime, to give the Hershey Bears a 3-2 win over the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday in Game 2 of the Calder Cup Eastern Conference Final. The win gives the Bears a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, which moves to Manchester on Monday. Gabe Gauthier had both goals for the Monarchs, the second of which game Manchester its first lead of the series.

STANLEY CUP UPDATE

Game one is in the books for both the Eastern and Western Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Chicago Blackhawks came from behind to top the San Jose Sharks 2-1 to take a 1-0 series lead in the West. Coming off a historic win against the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Philadelphia Flyers carried their momentum into a 6-0 blanking of the Montreal Canadiens. Game two for both conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, May 18.

MONARCHS CALDER CUP FUN FACTS

Small Margin - All but two games of the Monarchs quest for the 2010 Calder Cup have finished with a two-goal or less margin. The only two games with more than two tallies between the teams were Manchester's 7-2 win over Portland in game four of the Atlantic Division Semifinals and the 5-0 shutout of the Worcester Sharks in game three of the division final.

Mr. Consistancy - Monarchs center Trevor Lewis has been the most consistant player on the Monarchs roster this post-season. His steady play night-in and night-out has helped him collect nine points (5-4=9) in the first 12 playoff games this season which ties him with teammate, center Gabe Gauthier, for second place on the Monarchs roster.

Solid Penalty Kill - The Hershey Bears lead the AHL on the power play during the regular season with 81 goals while skating with the man advantage on 391 attempts for a 21% rating. In the first two rounds of the playoffs, Hershey capitalized on 13-of-52 power play advantages. The Monarchs have been able to shut down the Bears on 8-of-9 power play chances through the first two games.
