Komets blast Generals at Flint 6-2; Can win third straight Turner Cup Saturday

Fort Wayne, IN - The defending Turner Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets upended the Generals at Flint Friday night 6-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the IHL best-of-seven Turner Cup Finals.

The Komets opened the game Friday at Perani Arena in front of 4,065 with a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Sean O'Connor and Leo Thomas. After a scoreless second period, Flint's Pascal Rheume took advantage of starting the third stanza on the power play scoring at 0:36. Only 31 seconds later the Generals tied the game at 2-2 when Mike Olynyk solved Komet goalie Tim Haun.

The remainder of the third frame belonged to Fort Wayne as Komets Colin Chaulk, Matt Syroczynski and P.C. Drouin each scored to run up the score to 5-2 in the Komets' favor. Thomas scored his second of the night with an empty netter at 18:21 with Flint's netminder Rob Nolan pulled in favor of the extra attacker to give Fort Wayne a 6-2 win and 3-1 series lead. Haun posted his second win of the playoffs saving 33 of 35 Flint shots while Nolan registered the loss on 26 saves.

The Komets now have a chance to snag a third straight IHL Title Saturday night in Fort Wayne when they face the Generals at the Memorial Coliseum at 7:30.
