Omaha Lancers News Release

Ryan Massa registered 27 saves and Matt Leitner buried a pair of goals as the Fargo Force dropped the Omaha Lancers 5-2 Saturday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium and in doing so, won the West Division Finals three games to two. Fargo advances to the Clark Cup Finals to face the Anderson Cup champion Green Bay Gamblers while tonight's contest marks the end of Omaha's season.

Fargo grabbed the game's opening marker less than five minutes into the opening period of play when Nate Condon pounced on a rebound at the top of the goal crease for his third goal of the playoffs. Johnnie Searfoss and Eamonn McDermott assisted on the even strength marker netted 4:52 into period one. The Lancers found a way to even the contest with less than four minutes remaining in the opening period when Fargo's Dayn Belfour, who had to relieve starting goaltender Ryan Massa after a brief injury, came out of the net to play the puck in the right corner and ended up turning it over to Matt White whose shot from a sharp angle rang off the left post before springing to Erik Haula who made no mistake in burying his second goal of the postseason. The equalizing tally came at five-on-five hockey 16:15 into the opening frame.

The Force regained the lead less than four minutes into the second period when J.P. Burkemper used a slick move at the Omaha blue line to get around Dennis Brown before deking again at the top of the crease in sending home his first goal of the playoffs. Nick Oliver earned the only assist on the even strength goal netted 3:37 into the middle frame.

Omaha came out surging in the final frame of regulation and evened the contest just 3:18 into the third period when, while on the power play, Ryan Daugherty orchestrated a beautiful play in the slot setting up Troy Power at the left wing who blasted in his third goal of the playoffs. Nick Oddo grabbed the secondary assist on what proved to be Omaha's final goal of the season. Fargo bounced right back and regained the lead less than three minutes later when Colten St. Clair fired a cross-ice pass right to the tape of Chase Grant who tapped in his seventh goal of the postseason. The Force then added a pair of insurance markers from Matt Leitner 13:12 into the final period and 19:30 into the third sealing the 5-2 victory.

Omaha's Jeff Teglia suffered the loss despite 25 saves on 29 Fargo shots. The Lancers netminder finished the playoffs with a 5-3 record overall. Meanwhile, Fargo's Massa grabbed the victory after an impressive 27 saves on 28 Omaha shots.
