Petizian Signs, Motherwell Rejoins Cyclones

CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced this afternoon that they have signed goaltender Alex Petizian to an amateur tryout agreement and that defenseman Brett Motherwell has been returned to the club.

Petizian, 23, finished his collegiate career with St. Lawrence University in March. Posting a 5-6-3 record with SLU, with a 3.04 goals against average and a .901 save percentage- Alex signed with the Rochester Americans (AHL) and made 26 saves in a loss at Syracuse on April 10, permitting four goals in the defeat. His final game as a collegian was a 34 save effort in a 3-0 loss to Brown in the third place game of the ECAC Tournament on March 14.

The five-foot-ten, 175 pound native of Kirkland, PQ collected four varsity letters at St. Lawrence. Petizian turned in a 45-29-10 record with a 2.53 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. His goals against average breaks the school record of 2.55 set more than 50 years ago. During 2008-09, Alex compiled a 17-9-5 record with a 2.18 goals against average- third-best in a single season in SLU history- and had a .927 save percentage.

Petizian collected four shutouts in his collegiate career and was selected four times as ECAC Goaltender of the Week. Alex was also tabbed by Inside College Hockey as a Freshman All-American selection in 2006-07.

Brett Motherwell has been returned to the Cyclones by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL). Motherwell played in 48 games with Cincinnati during the regular season, registering a pair of goals and 26 assists for 28 points. Brett played in 17 games with Bridgeport and had nine assists.

In other Cyclones news, to create room for Motherwell on the roster for tonight's game- forward Ian McKenzie has been placed on the reserve list.

The second round of the Cincinnati Cyclones USA Collision Centers postseason starts tonight as the Cyclones travel to Charlotte for a 7pm game (6:30pm pregame show on ESPN 1530 and at www.cycloneshockey.com). It is the first game of the best of seven series in the American Conference Semifinals between fifth-seeded Cincinnati and the conference champion Charlotte.
