Potomac Nationals News Release

The Salem Red Sox bested the Potomac Nationals 8-3 Saturday. The win gives the Sox a 2-1 advantage in the four-game series.

Left-hander Fabian Williamson earned the win for Salem, holding the P-Nats to one run on four hits in five innings of work. Potomac righty Brad Peacock was charged with the loss after surrendering four runs in the third.

Will Vazquez was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then scored on a double by Drew Hedman. Ryan Dent tripled to score Hedman, then Tim Federowicz homered to left-center to give the Red Sox the early 4-0 lead.

Brian Peacock cut the Salem lead to three in the fourth with an RBI single to left that plated Michael Burgess from third.

But Salem answered in the top of the fifth when Hedman scored on a sacrifice fly by Dent. The Red Sox further extended their lead in the eighth, posting three runs on three hits off Nationals reliever Patrick McCoy. The burst rendered meaningless a two-run resurgence by Potomac in the bottom of the same frame.

Steve Lombardozzi, Michael Burgess and Brian Peacock each recorded an RBI on the night. Robby Jacobsen was 2-for-4.

Potomac and Salem face off again Sunday at 1:05 p.m. to conclude the season-opening series. Sunday is Little League Day at Pfitzner Stadium, so bring your team to watch our team! And, as always, kids are invited to run the bases following every Friday, Saturday and Sunday home game.
