OMAHA, Neb. - Nick Oddo scored two goals in the first period as the Omaha Lancers (1-0) cruise to victory over the Tri-City Storm (0-1), 7-1 on Wednesday night. The Lancers take a 1-0 series lead in the West Division Semi-Finals with Game 2 in Kearney on Friday night.
Nick Oddo scored the first two goals for Omaha, both in the first period. The first goal for Oddo was setup by Colin Markison in the right-circle at the 3:07 mark. Oddo's second goal was on a rebound shot from Camden Wojtala 6:49 into the period.
The Lancers scored quickly on a 5-on-3 power play 3:36 into the second period, as Greg Wolfe scored from Matt White and Erik Haula.
Radoslav Illo redirected a pass from Maxwell Tardy past Omaha goalie Jeff Teglia to get the Storm on the board at the 6:56 mark into the second period. However, that would be the lone goal for the Storm in the game.
The Lancers would score two more in the second period, as Troy Power and Camden Wojtala both scored even-strength goals to give Omaha a 5-1 lead after two periods.
Matt White scored 2:19 into the third period on a breakaway and Dakota Eveland capped the scoring at the 12:11 mark with an unassisted goal.
Carsen Chubak (0-1) made 21 saves on 26 shots in the loss for the Storm, as Steven Bolton made 8 saves on 10 shots in relief of Chubak. Teglia (1-0) made 19 saves on 20 shots in the win for the Lancers.
The Storm on the power play was 0-for-4, while Omaha was 1-for-5 with the man-advantage.
Tri-City will host the Lancers for Game 2 on Friday night at the Viaero Event Center. The Storm will try to tie the series with a win and force a Game 4 in Kearney for next Monday night.
Notes: It was the first playoff game played by the Storm since 2007... The Storm did not beat the Lancers in Omaha during the regular season on three visits and are 0-4-0 overall this season... The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Storm entering the playoffs...
