Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
A five-minute major penalty and Green Bay Gambler defenseman Nick Jensen did in the Waterloo Black Hawks in Game One of the Clark Cup playoffs Wednesday, a 2-1 affair for the home team.
Jensen scored the game-winning goal at 13:09 of the third period after a major penalty had been called on Brock Montpetit for tripping. Waterloo successfully killed off the first three minutes of power play time before J.T. Brown was horse-collared down to the ice during a partial breakaway, resulting in no call. The Gambler game-winner was scored less than a minute later.
Brown scored the first goal of the evening at 10:31 of the opening period, on a long shot which eluded Green Bay netminder Steve Summerhays. Just 36 seconds later, on a power play, Jensen set up Patrick McCadden with an open side to tie the score. C.J. Motte stopped Green Bay's other 28 chances, including brilliant diving glove saves while shorthanded at 14:14 of the second and 10:04 of the third.
Game Two in the best-of-five series is in Green Bay Friday at 7:05.
