
P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 3-2 In Overtime

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 3-2 in overtime Sunday afternoon at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Jordan Knackstedt, Zach Hamill and Kirk MacDonald. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Team Poster Night against the Springfield Falcons.
After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 4:12 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Cody Wild fed the puck to Knackstedt, giving him a breakaway. Knackstedt slipped the puck into the net for his 14th goal of the season. The Pirates tied the game at one at the 14:35 mark. Derek Whitmore netted his 18th goal of the season, while Kyle Wanvig and Felix Schutz recorded the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at one.
Portland took its first lead of the game at the 9:31 mark of the third period. Cody McCormick tallied his 15th goal of the season, while Mike Kostka and Paul Byron picked up the assists. Providence tied the game at two at the 19:13 mark with the extra attacker on the ice. Hamill scored unassisted, his 14th goal of the season, to force overtime.
In overtime the P-Bruins scored at the 2:10 mark to take the victory. Drew Larman fed the puck to Alain Goulet, who found MacDonald, giving him a breakaway. MacDonald tallied his 13th goal of the season as the P-Bruins went onto the 3-2 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 28 of 30 shots for the P-Bruins, while J.P. Lamoureux made 24 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins are back home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Team Poster Night against the Springfield Falcons. The P-Bruins wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games Saturday at the DCU Center against the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at the Tsongas Arena versus the Lowell Devils at 4:00 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
