
Storm Are Back Into The Playoffs, Beat Stamps 5-2

KEARNEY, Neb. - After a three year absence from the Clark Cup Playoffs, the Tri-City Storm (29-25-6, 64 pts) will be competing in the post-season, as they beat the Sioux Falls Stampede (33-15-12, 78 pts) on Saturday night, 5-2. The Storm's Jaden Schwartz assisted on three goals and officially won the USHL scoring title (83 points) and became the first player in the franchise's history to capture the achievement.
Tri-City flooded the back of the Sioux Falls net with a three-goal first period. Brett Mohler opened the scoring on a short-handed goal 7:06 into the game, as Nate Jensen and Schwartz teamed up for the assists. Nearly four-minutes later the Storm scored on a five-on-three power play, as Radoslav Illo scored his 24th goal of the season from Schwartz and Luke McManus.
The Storm went up 3-0 on Tucker Brockett's 12th goal of the season, deflecting Branden Fisher's point-shot at the 16:06 mark into the first period.
Maxwell Tardy scored his 12th of the season 1:42 into the second period, on a rebound shot from Cody Murphy.
Sioux Falls did not score until 17:19 into the second period, as Matt Zarbo scored on a setup play by Sam Coatta from the side of the Storm net.
In the third period, the Stampede cut the deficit in half with Jacob Johnstone's goal at the 9:15 mark in the period.
The Storm's Anthony DeCenzo scored his 14th of the season from Schwartz and Mohler with 2:23 left in regulation. DeCenzo's goal was Schwartz's 50th assist this season and the extra-point he needed to win the league scoring title outright.
Carsen Chubak (21-19-6) made 31 saves on 33 shots in the win. Clay Witt (24-12-7) made a 27 saves on 32 shots in the loss for Sioux Falls.
Tri-City on the power play was 1-for-4, while Sioux Falls was 1-for-7 with the man-advantage.
The Storm will play Game One of the best-of-five series against Omaha on Wednesday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
Notes: Schwartz is the first 17-year old player to win the league scoring title since Thomas Vanek did it for Sioux Falls in 2001-2002 with 91 points... The Storm home record ended at 16-10-4 this season, as they also won the season series against Sioux Falls 3-2-0
