Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

In a fitting end to a high-scoring 2009-2010 campaign, the Waterloo Black Hawks buried seven goals to down Team USA 7-1 at Young Arena Friday.

The offensive output marked the eighth time in 60 games Waterloo was able to put at least seven pucks into the net on a single night. Three came in the first period as Patrick Divjak scored on his own rebound at 8:05, Jon Puskar redirected a power play chance into the net 1:59 later, and Jacob MacDonald netted a quick shot after a faceoff win in the waning seconds before intermission.

In the second, another deflected shot turned into a goal at 3:44, this time for Jimmy Siers. Tyler Zepeda struck less than four minutes later on a breakaway.

In the third period, Waterloo's top goal scorers, in search of the league title, went to work. Tyler Barnes set up J.T. Brown with an open side at 4:04. Brown returned the favor at 6:59 when a homerun pass sent Barnes springing into the offensive end for a goal. The marker was Barnes 35th and ties him with Anders Lee of Green Bay and Matt White of Omaha for the regular season goals lead among all USHL players. Team USA's tally with 9:07 remaining came when an errant shot set up Mike Mersch at a sharp angle. The flip in was the only blemish during C.J. Motte's performance, which included 25 saves.

The Hawks open the Clark Cup playoffs with a game in Green Bay Wednesday night. Game Two is also in Green Bay on Friday, then the best-of-five series shifts to Waterloo for Game Three on Saturday, April 10th.
