U.S. National U17 Team Falls To Omaha, 3-0

OMAHA, Neb. - Despite John Gibson's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) 31-save effort, the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Omaha Lancers, 3-0, here tonight at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.

Matt White staked the Lancers to a 1-0 lead with just 35 seconds remaining in the opening stanza when he broke in alone, deked to his backhand and slipped the puck under Gibson. The U.S. netminder, however, had stopped the first 15 shots he faced in the frame.

White added another late-period goal when he chipped his own rebound over Gibson's left shoulder from the left side of the crease with just 1:59 left in the second stanza.

The Lancers earned a 3-0 cushion when Troy Power picked up a loose puck on the right side of the net and jammed it inside the right post 3:47 into the third frame. Team USA put seven shots on the Omaha net in the closing 20 minutes, but goaltender Jeff Teglia turned each aside to give the Lancers the 3-0 victory.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will close out the 2009-10 season against the Waterloo Black Hawks on the road Saturday at 7:05 p.m. CDT.
