Omaha Lancers News Release
Greg Wolfe tallied a goal and an assist and Mathieu Brisson netted the game-winner early in the third period as the Omaha Lancers dropped the Tri-City Storm 3-2 Friday evening in front of 4,782 fans at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 39-12-6 on the year and have now garnered at least one standings point in each of their last 13 games having gone 10-0-3 during that stretch. The victory also closed the regular season series between Omaha and Tri-City with the Lancers posting a 4-0-1 record this season against the Storm.
Omaha grabbed the game's opening marker just prior to the midway point of period one when Troy Power collected a loose rebound at the top of the goal crease before backhanding in his 26th goal of the season. Greg Wolfe and Dakota Eveland assisted on the even strength marker netted 9:52 into the opening period of play. Power's goal was his 12th in the last 15 games and was Omaha's league-leading 40th first goal of the season. Tri-City was quick to respond, however, and evened the contest at a goal apiece just 1:25 later when Tucker Brockett pounced on a rebound in the slot in firing home his 11th goal of the season. Tucker Long earned the only assist on the equalizing marker tallied 11:17 into the period.
The Lancers regained the lead less than five minutes into the second period when Wolfe, while shorthanded, corralled a loose puck at center and broke in on Storm goaltender Carsen Chubak before deking in his 22nd goal of the season. Wolfe's unassisted marker netted 4:28 into the period was Omaha's 15th shorthanded goal this season matching the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for the league lead in that department. Tri-City found a way once again though to even the contest as a little better than 10 minutes later Nate Jensen poked a loose puck under the goaltending stick of Omaha's John Keeny for his 7th goal of the season. Radoslav Illo garnered the only assist on the five-on-five tally scored 14:44 into the frame.
Omaha would have the final say, however, as less than three minutes into the final period and while awaiting a delayed minor penalty call against Tri-City, Mathieu Brisson pinched in from the right point in chipping in his 5th goal of the season. Stefan Demopoulos and Alec Rush assisted on the goal after a relentless forecheck, which proved to be the eventual game-winning marker.
Omaha's John Keeney was rarely tested in the opening two periods seeing just 11 shots through the game's first 40 minutes but answered the call in the third period by turning away all 10 shots he faced in the final period. All tolled, Keeney turned aside 19 of Tri-City's 21 shots in the game improving his overall record to 7-1-1 on the year. Chubak suffered the loss in goal for the Storm despite recording 25 saves on 28 Omaha shots.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening as they welcome the Sioux City Musketeers to the Omaha Civic Auditorium for a 7:05 PM opening face off.
