Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
It took a couple of weeks longer than the Black Hawks might have hoped, but with Waterloo's 4-0 win visiting the Des Moines Buccaneers Friday and losses by Chicago and Team USA, the Hawks have qualified for the Clark Cup playoffs.
Will Yanakeff stopped 23 shots on goal and the Black Hawks scored three times on the power play. The first goal of the night was at even strength, a Brock Montpetit shot which bounced off of goalie Eric Mihalik and into the net 7:17 into the first period.
The power play went to work in the second. J.T. Brown fed Tyler Barnes a pass with an open side 6:15 into the second. Brown scored himself at 9:27. Barnes would add one more power play goal, redirecting Derek Arnold's shot 3:31 into the third.
Team USA fell to Youngstown 3-2 Friday and cannot catch the Black Hawks. Sioux City defeated Chicago 2-1, meaning the Steel can only tie Waterloo and the Hawks own the head-to-head tie-breaker.
Waterloo rounds out the weekend with a meeting against the archrival Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in Young Arena at 7:05.
