(3/24): Baysox Go Squirrel Hunting

March 24, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1) - Bowie Baysox News Release

BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox will try to bag the Richmond Flying Squirrels when the teams meet on Outdoorsman Night Friday, April 9, at Prince George's Stadium at 7:05 p.m. The event features discounted tickets, the opportunity to show off trophy catches and the first ever regatta at the stadium.

Baysox Director of Marketing Brandan Kaiser says the event draws off the environment at Prince George's Stadium. "Our stadium is kind of tucked away in the woods here," Kaiser said. "It's so secluded, we felt it would be a great place to highlight all the hunting and fishing that Marylanders do."

The Baysox are making it easy for hunters, crabbers and fisherman to get into the game with a special ticket offer. Any fan who brings a hunting, fishing, boating or crabbing license, or duck stamp to the box office can purchase a lower reserved seat ticket for $7 (regularly $14). The tickets must be purchased in person at the box office on the day of the game, and a fan can only purchase one ticket for each license or stamp in their possession.

Once inside the ballpark, fans can display their trophy catches in the "Best Catch" competition. Fans can submit a picture of the biggest deer, fish or duck they have bagged, and the fans will choose a winner. The winner receives bragging rights and a fabulous Baysox prize pack.

To kick off the event, Bill Crutchfield Jr. will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Crutchfield holds the Maryland record for largest non-typical whitetail deer. The Baysox will feature outdoors-themed activities between innings, including the Bowie Regatta.

Baysox Director of Promotions Lauren Phillips looks forward to the race. "It's going to be a blast," Phillips said. "I don't want to give away all the details, but the regatta will take place in the outfield with our interns."

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will be on hand for the event, as well as the Maryland Quality Deer Management Association.

Think Outside The Box with the Baysox in 2010. The Baysox open their 18th season as the class Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles at Prince George's Stadium on Thursday, April 8, at 7:05 p.m. against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Catch all the action in Natural Definition! Baysox full-season and partial-season ticket packages are available now at www.baysox.com or by calling the group sales department at (301) 464-4880.
