Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - Reid Boucher scored two goals, including the game-winning goal in the second period, as Team USA - U17 (23-27-4, 50 pts) downed the Tri-City Storm (26-22-6, 58 pts) at the Viaero Event Center on Friday night, 4-1. The Storm did not win one game against the U.S. National Team Developmental Program (USNTDP or Team USA) this season in four attempts.
Both teams had 17 shots on goal in the first period, but neither team was able to score in the opening period. Team USA goalie John Gibson and Storm goalie Carsen Chubak were outstanding in the run-and-gun scoreless period.
Team USA scored the opening goal 18-seconds into the second period, as J.T. Miller scored his fifth goal of the season. Boucher would score another even-strength goal for the U17's at the 6:03 mark in the second, which eventually was credited at the game-winning goal.
Team USA was awarded a five-minute power play late in the second period, as the Storm's Brett Mohler was ejected after an attempted fight with Austin Wuthrich.
The U17's would score twice on the major-power play, as Boucher scored his second of the night at the 17:40 mark in the second period and Travis Boyd scored with a minute left in the period to give Team USA a 4-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
Radoslav Illo scored the lone-goal for Tri-City at the 9:07 mark in the third period. Maxwell Tardy and Michael Montrose picked up the assists on Illo's 22nd goal of the season.
Chubak (19-16-6) received the loss making 29 saves on 33 shots in the first and second period, as Steven Bolton made two saves on two shots in the third period in relief for the Storm. Gibson (6-7-0) made 38 saves on 39 shots in the win for the U17's.
Gibson made 96 saves on 98 shots in the two games against the Storm this season for the U17's.
Tri-City on the power play was 0-for-6, while Team USA was 2-for-4 with the man-advantage.
The Storm's "Magic Number" to clinch a playoff spot is stuck at eight standing points heading into Saturday's game against the Fargo Force at the Viaero Event Center.
