Former Kernels Dominate BA's Angels Top 30 List

Cedar Rapids, IA - Twenty-one former Kernels make up Baseball America's Angels Top 30 prospect list, with seven playing at Perfect Game Field last season.

Topping the list is catcher Hank Conger (2007), as OF Peter Bourjos (2007), Mike Trout (2009), Trevor Reckling (2008), Garrett Richrards (2009), Jordan Walden (2008), and Trevor Bell (2007-08) all in the top 10.

2009 MWL batting champion, Alexi Amarista, was listed at #17, while other members of the 2009 squad listed in the top 30 include pitchers Tyler Chatwood (#14), Will Smith (#15), Ryan Chaffee (#21) and Mike Kohn (#30).

BA also listed their Best Player Tools within the Angels organization as Mike Trout was tabbed 'Best Athlete', Garrett Richards was chosen 'Best Fastball and Curveball', and Angel Castillo with the 'Best Outfield Arm'. Former Kernel Mark Trumbo was named 'Best Power Hitter' and Peter Bourjos as 'Best Defensive Outfielder and Fastest Base Runner'.

Angels Minor League Spring Training is currently in progress at the Tempe Diablo Complex in Tempe, AZ, with the minor league teams scheduled to begin spring training games on Thursday, March 18. The 2010 Kernels break camp on Sunday, April 4 and arrive in Cedar Rapids on Monday, April 5th.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels open the 2010 season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, April 8 at 6:35 pm against the Beloit Snappers. Season tickets and 'Anytime' 10-game coupon books are on sale now at www.kernels.com. Individual game tickets go on sale March 22 at 10 am.
