Johnstown, Pa. - After playing four of their last six games on home ice, the Johnstown Chiefs are turning into road warriors for the next stretch. They will play the first three legs of a four-game road trip this week.

This Week:

3/18 at Cincinnati, 7:30 p.m. - Home (1-4-0), Away (2-1-0) With three more games between the Chiefs and Cyclones - two in Cincinnati and 1 in Johnstown - the season series is still up for grabs. The schedule makers may have done the Chiefs a favor for this meeting in Cincinnati. The Cyclones will be coming off of a six-game road trip (3-3-0) including four games in the South Division. Johnstown, meanwhile, has played four of its last six on home ice. The Chiefs picked up a big 6-2 win over the Cyclones in Johnstown on February 27. Six different Chiefs scored and David Schulz posted a season-high plus-5. Cincinnati swung a trade ahead of last week's deadline; sending Mark Voakes and Scott Marchesi to Bakersfield in exchange for Mathieu Aubin

3/20 at Reading, 7:05 p.m. - Home (4-1-0), Away (1-4-0) Control of the Keystone State rivalry is up for grabs this Saturday when the Chiefs pay their final visit of the season to the Reading Royals. The Chiefs needed a win, and got it in a big way, last Friday in Johnstown to give themselves a chance to win the season series. Reading has won two straight against the Chiefs at the Sovereign Center, though, and seven of its last 10 on home ice. The only teams to win in Reading over that stretch were Kalamazoo and Elmira - two teams the Chiefs have yet to defeat this season. Johnstown's defense has surrendered 10 goals in the last two losses in Reading.

3/21 at Elmira, 4:05 p.m. - Home (0-1-3), Away (0-2-2) If nothing else, Chiefs/Jackals games this season have been dramatic and entertaining but victories have been very elusive for the Chiefs. Two of their last three at First Arena have been sent to overtime thanks to Chanse Fitzpatrick scoring with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker. On March 5 the goal came with 1:33 left in regulation, and on December 20 there were just four ticks left on the clock. Olivier Proulx came through each time, though, and scored the deciding goal in the shootout on December 20 as well as the overtime winner on March 5. Sunday is Johnstown's final trip to First Arena this season.

Last Week: (1-1-0)

3/12 vs. Reading: W 7-2 The Chiefs matched their best offensive output of the season and evened the season series against Reading last Friday. Multi-point nights, highlighted by Dan Gendur's first two goals of the season and two points (1G, 1A) by Chris Chambers in his pro debut, popped up throughout the Chiefs' lineup . Reading opened up the game strongly with power play goals by Bryan Ewing and Ryan Cruthers 54 seconds apart in the first period. At that point of the game the Chiefs were outshooting the Royals 9-3, and the assault didn't stop. The Chiefs ended the night with 43 shots against Andrew Engelage while Kris Mayotte improved his record against Reading to 4-1-0 this season. Jim McKenzie opened up the Chiefs' barrage at 15:14 of the first as he banged home a loose puck from the edge of the crease. Before the night ended, McKenzie added assists on goals by Gendur and Jeff Martens as the Chiefs grew the lead to 4-2. Connor Shields continued his strong play this month with three assists. Chanse Fitzpatrick added to his team goal scoring lead with just under three minutes to play in regulation and set the final score.

3/13 vs. Wheeling: L 1-4 For the final chapter of the longest standing rivalry in ECHL history, the Chiefs were looking to put a damper on the Nailers' playoff hopes. Instead, the Nailers launched 48 shots Kris Mayotte's way and picked up the win. Mayotte was sharp from the onset, but a one timer from Lane Caffaro hit home 10:31 into the game. Former Chief Jordan Morrison swiped the puck away as the Chiefs were attempting a breakout, circled the net, and hit Caffaro with a pass in the left circle. In spite of 19 Nailer shots, Mayotte kept the Chiefs within one through 20 minutes. A nearly identical goal by Chris Davis, though, doubled Wheeling's lead 5:54 into the second and Aaron Clarke picked up the eventual game winner with a power play goal at 6:53 of the third. Johnstown looked like it was coming to life when Brian Kaufman found the net with a power play goal of his own 1:46 after Clarke's. Kaufman's goal was the only one to best Adam Berkhoel, though, and Colin Power potted an empty netter with 19 seconds to play and set the final score.
