Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors opened their final two home games of the regular season with a 4-2 loss to the Belleville Bulls. The loss drops Mississauga to 41-20-4-2 on the season.

The Majors went up 2-0 over the Bulls and allowed Belleville back into the game and to steal two points from Mississauga. The play was even back-and-forth until the Majors started to outplay the Bulls in the closing minutes of the opening period. Derek Schoenmakers put Mississauga ahead 1-0 at 14:39 after a failed clearing attempt by Belleville. Bulls goaltender Anthony Peters went to play the puck and lost control, Ryan Lopes jumped on the loose puck and passed to Schoenmakers out front for the goal. Under two minutes later Mississauga made it 2-0 when Jordan Mayer scored his thirtieth goal of the season. Mayer capitalized on a rebound after William Wallen's shot was saved by Peters. The Majors closed the first with a two goal advantage and appeared to be heading to victory.

The tide changed as JP Anderson was tested early and often in the Mississauga goal making a series of saves to keep the Majors ahead by two. At 8:21 Belleville struck on the power play to cut the lead to one. Richard Panik's shot from the side of the net beat Anderson. Belleville added another power play goal just over a minute later to tie the game at two. Shawn Lalonde's shot beat Anderson glove side. The Bulls kept rolling by taking the lead under a minute later. Alex Aleardi turned his back to the Majors defender and made a backhanded pass to Austen Brassard. Brassard fought off Blake Parlett and beat Anderson to make it 3-2 for Belleville. Adam Payerl added a power play goal just twenty-nine seconds into the third period to give Belleville a 4-2 and that's how it would end. Anthony Peters made 32 saves for the Bulls and picked up the victory. JP Anderson turned aside 21 shots in a losing effort. The Majors return to action on Sunday afternoon against the Niagara IceDogs at 2:00 p.m. at the Hershey Centre for their final regular season game.
