R-Phils Name Top 10 Promotions For 2010

March 2, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading, PA - Earlier today the Reading Phillies released their promotional calendar for the 2010 season, presented by Pepsi, and in conjunction, have named their "Top 10" promotions for the season - giving fans ten more great reasons to come to FirstEnergy Stadium this year. The full 2010 promotional calendar is available at www.readingphillies.com.

"These ten promotions are the ones we believe will be the most popular with the fans," said R-Phils GM Scott Hunsicker. "While we have already released information on a couple of them, we thought it would be exciting to put our top ten promotions together for fans to see."

#1. - Fans of the R-Phils, the Philadelphia Phillies and of 2006 NL MVP Ryan Howard, will want to come out to the Tuesday, August 3 game against the Trenton Thunder for a one-of-a-kind Ryan Howard Garden Gnome, presented by FirstEnergy. The Ryan Howard Garden Gnome depicts a kneeling Howard in his R-Phils uniform, sporting a Gnome Beard and Gnome hat. The first 2,500 adults attending the 7:05 p.m. contest will receive this instant collectible of the former R-Phils first baseman. Howard, who has compiled at least 45 home runs and 136 RBIs in each of the last four seasons, launched an impressive 37 home runs for the R-Phils in 2004, en-route to Eastern League MVP and Rookie of the Year honors.

# 2. - On Sunday, July 11, fans of all ages will be treated to a truly special day at the ballpark as the Reading Phillies and Y102 will pay tribute to the most unique mascot around - the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor. The first 2,000 kids who enter the ballpark for the 6:05 p.m. game will receive a Crazy Hot Dog Vendor look-a-like t-shirt. Think "tuxedo t-shirt", but instead each child that wears it will look just like the beloved Crazy Hot Dog Vendor. In addition, all Redner's R-Phils Kids Club members will have the chance to perform on the field with the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor during a special pre-game celebration. And to top the tribute off, R-Phils players will actually wear Crazy Hot Dog Vendor look-a-like team jerseys when they take the field against the Harrisburg Senators for the game.

# 3. - Already announced earlier in the year as part of the Opening Weekend festivities, the R-Phils will give away a special Fleece Blanket with Sleeves, presented by Pepsi, to the first 3,000 adults who enter the ballpark on Opening Night on Thursday, April 8. Fans who receive this giveaway will be able to keep warm all night during the R-Phils 7:05 p.m. contest against the Portland Sea Dogs and have it for those chilly nights in 2010.

# 4. - The first 2,500 adults who enter the ballpark on Tuesday, August 31, will receive an R-Phils All Decade Team t-shirt, presented by TexStyles Garment Printing & Embroidery. The R-Phils gave their fans a chance to choose the All-Decade Team, and with one position left to announce, the race for the All-Decade Team is heating up. Fans have been given the chance to vote for who they think deserves to be on the R-Phils All-Decade Team, and each week one lucky fan out of the hundreds who have voted, has been selected to win four reserved seats to the game. Not yet announced, one lucky fan will be selected to win an R-Phils Phan Pack, which will consist of a ten person pool party, a ceremonial first pitch and an autographed team baseball.

# 5. - The Annual Harley Night at FirstEnergy Stadium will again give Harley-Davidson fans a chance to enjoy a special night at the park. On Saturday, August 28, the first 2,500 adults 18 and over will receive a Harley Hat and fans will be treated to a fireworks show, all thanks to Classic Harley-Davidson. During the pre-game, fans can ride their Harley-Davidson around the field and all fans in attendance will have the chance to win a 2010 Harley-Davidson, in the Harley MDA Raffle, thanks to Classic Harley-Davidson. One fan will win the bike immediately following the game.

# 6. - On Monday, June 14, the first 2,000 adults who attend the 9:35 a.m. game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels will receive an R-Phils Travel Mug, presented by Take Two Bagels. For the fan on the go, the R-Phils Travel Mug will be the perfect addition to their collection. Also, all fans can stroll the warning track beginning at 8:30AM.

# 7. - The 2010 season, presented by Pepsi, will be a blast on 28 occasions, as the R-Phils have added 28 spectacular fireworks shows to their schedule. The R-Phils will light up the sky for the first time in 2010 on April 24 with fireworks presented by Carpenter Technology Corporation. Dates to all 28 exciting fireworks games can be found online at www.readingphillies.com.

# 8. - Gluttony Night, last season's huge sensation is back for 2010 and big eaters listen up. As announced last month, Gluttony Night will be held on three separate evenings, the first being on Friday, April 9. The second of three Gluttony Nights in 2010 will be held on June 1 during the 6:35 p.m. game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) and a third Gluttony Night will take place on Monday, August 30. During the three Gluttony Nights, fans will be able to eat as much as their hearts -- or bellies desire for just an extra $10. Last season, the two Gluttony Nights held at FirstEnergy Stadium earned a nomination by Minor League Baseball as one of the top ten promotions of the season.

# 9. - On Tuesday, August 17, the first 2,500 adults will have the chance to add an R-Phils Mike Schmidt Maroon Batting Practice T-Shirt to their collection and to their wardrobe, courtesy of Sir Speedy Printing. Considered one of the greatest third basemen in the history of Major League Baseball, Schmidt began his professional career in 1971 in Reading, hitting eight home runs and driving in 31 runs for the R-Phils. Over the course of his 18-year Major League career, the Ohio native launched an impressive 548 home runs and drove in 1,595 runs for the Philadelphia Phillies. He was voted National League MVP three times, an All-Star 12 times, and was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.

# 10. - And finally, perhaps the most anticipated debut in Reading since Kyle Drabek last season, Dennis Haskins, better known and loved by fans as Mr. Belding, will be on hand for a special Mr. Belding Schools Out Teacher night on Wednesday, June 23. The lovable principal on one of television's most popular teen shows ever, Saved By The Bell, will treat fans that enter through the turnstiles for the 7:05 p.m. game against the Bowie Baysox, to an event like no other. Fans will have the chance to meet Mr. Belding during an autograph session, presented by Berks Technical Institute, and will even have the opportunity to hear Mr. Belding sing karaoke, during a pre-game karaoke party beginning at 5:00, presented by Rock Hits Y102.
