Omaha Lancers News Release
Jeff Teglia turned aside all 32 shots he faced and in doing so guided Omaha to its first-ever regular season series sweep over the Lincoln Stars culminating in a 4-0 Lancers victory Friday evening at the Lincoln IceBox. With the win, the Lancers improved to 33-12-3 on the year and expanded their lead in the West Division standings to six points over second-place Fargo.
After nearly 37 minutes of scoreless hockey, Omaha finally broke through the goaltending of Lincoln's Jared Coreau and broke the scoreless deadlock when a Stars giveaway at their own blue line produced a 2-on-1 for Omaha resulting in Cam Wojtala's 7th goal of the season. Tom Craig and Colin Markison assisted on the tally notched 17:09 into the middle frame, which was Omaha's league-leading 35th first goal of the season.
The Lancers wasted little time doubling the lead as less than a minute into the final frame Troy Power blasted a right point shot between the pads of Coreau for his 18th marker of the season. Alec Rush and Aaron Ave both earned assists on the five-on-five goal netted 51 seconds into the period. Omaha didn't stop there and expanded the lead to 3-0 less than five and a half minutes into the frame when Seth Ambroz won a goal line scramble in punching home his 19th goal of the season and team-leading 10th power play marker this year. Ave and Dennis Brown assisted on Omaha's league-leading 61st man advantage tally this season. The Lancers landed the final nail in the coffin when, with less than four minutes left in regulation time and the Lincoln net empty, Matt White broke in on the right wing depositing his team-leading 28th goal of the season. Erik Haula grabbed the only assist on White's league-leading 6th shorthanded goal of the season and Omaha's 11th such marker as a team.
Teglia earned his third straight victory in goal after denying all 32 Lincoln shots he faced. With the win, Teglia improved to 26-10-2 on the year and continues to lead all USHL goaltenders in victories and is now second among all netminders with four shutouts. Coreau suffered the loss despite 36 saves on 39 Omaha shots.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow as they head to the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City to battle the Musketeers.
