CHICAGO (Feb. 22, 2010) -- Weiss Memorial Hospital orthopedic and sports medicine experts are teaming up with the Chicago Red Stars to become the exclusive healthcare partner for the women's soccer team. The partnership is part of Weiss' overall commitment to improve the health of the community.
"We are very pleased with our new relationship with the Chicago Red Stars," said Frank Molinaro, chief executive office of Weiss. "Their athletes are excellent role models and we look forward to working together with them to get a positive message out about healthy lifestyles and fitness to the kids in our community."
"Injury prevention and treatment is essential to staying active no matter what level of sports you're involved in," said Preston Wolin, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and director of sports medicine at Weiss who has served as team physician for the Red Stars since their inception.
"Teaming up with the Red Stars also will help us reach out to the community more to promote injury prevention, which is an important component to our care."
Dr. Wolin has extensive experience in sports medicine, serving as team physician for a host of college and professional teams. He and the rest of the orthopedic team at Weiss will extend their patient-centric care to these expert athletes, as well as novices of all ages as Weiss sponsors a Red Stars Community Soccer Clinic, Red Stars summer camps and the Illinois Women's Soccer League coaches' conference, promoting health for life through sports and physical activity.
Weiss orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians, many whom have affiliations with the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois medical centers, will provide the Red Stars with medical care to ensure their long-term health and viability on and off the field as professional athletes. The orthopedic unit at Weiss already boasts high patient, physician and employee satisfaction scores -- among the highest in the nation -- which illustrate the dedication behind the expertise.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Weiss Memorial Hospital for our team's health care needs," said Red Stars General Manager Marcia McDermott. "This represents an opportunity to continue to work with our team physician, Dr. Preston Wolin, who has tremendous experience working with and providing care to professional soccer players."
Weiss' three-year partnership with the Red Stars begins with the 2010 season.
