Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
C.J. Motte came up two minutes short of a shutout Friday, leading the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 5-1 road win against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
Motte kept Des Moines at bay early, making a key save on a transition opportunity and then a rebound with 5:30 remaining in the first period. Patrick Divjak redirected a shot for a power play goal at 18:53 of the first to put the Hawks ahead before intermission.
Divjak's goal was the only one in the game until Bryce Ravndalen was able to poke a puck into the net at 4:07 of the third. That opened the floodgates; Derek Arnold scored on a power play less than three minutes later. Dan Sova buried shot before a delayed penalty was whistled at 11:09. Divjak capped the scoring for Waterloo at 16:17. Blake Doerring managed to break up Motte's shutout bid with 1:53 left. Motte finished the night with 36 saves and his 18th victory.
The Hawks are back at home Saturday to host Sioux City at 7:05. The first 1,000 fans will receive an official 2009-2010 Black Hawks team photo courtesy of Lincoln Savings Bank.
