Omaha Lancers News Release
Dakota Eveland and Seth Ambroz each tallied a goal and an assist as the Omaha Lancers outlasted the Youngstown Phantoms 4-1 Friday evening at the Covelli Centre. With the win, the Lancers improved to 31-12-3 on the year and opened up a four standings point lead over 2nd place Fargo in the West Division. The loss was Youngstown's 6th consecutive defeat at home and the team's 11th overall setback in its last 12 games.
After a predominantly scoreless period, the Lancers grabbed the game's opening marker late in the first period when Matt White received a drop pass from Erik Haula on the left wing before blasting home his league-leading 27th goal of the season from the top of the face off circle. Dennis Brown earned the secondary assist on the even strength goal netted 18:16 into the opening period of play. The goal was Omaha's league-leading 34th first goal of the season.
Youngstown thought it had tied the game midway through the second period when a goal line scramble produced a puck that rolled to the goal line but not completely across it preserving Omaha's 1-0 advantage. After dodging that bullet, the Lancers doubled the lead with less than five minutes remaining in the period when Seth Ambroz cleared a puck from the defensive zone, which found the stick of Dakota Eveland in neutral ice who was able to use his speed to get around Phantoms' defenseman Dan Senkbiel before slipping his 15th goal of the season between the pads of Youngstown's Jordan Tibbett. Ambroz and Jeff Teglia assisted on the five-on-five goal scored 15:04 into the middle stanza. The assist for Teglia is the first point registered by a Lancers goaltender this season.
Youngstown made it interesting just prior to the midway point of the third period when, from behind the Omaha cage, Brett Gensler set up Dylan Margonari in front for his career USHL goal. Omaha battled right back, however, and re-established its two-goal lead just 61 seconds when Cam Wojtala's clean face off win in the attacking led to Tom Craig's 5th goal of the season. The Lancers landed the final nail in the coffin with just over six minutes left in regulation when a beautiful forecheck below Youngstown's goal line produced Ambroz's 17th goal of the season. Eveland and Greg Wolfe assisted on the final goal of the game.
Jeff Teglia earned his West Division-leading 24th win of the season after turning aside 24 of Youngstown's 25 total shots. Tibbett suffered the regulation loss after 28 saves on 32 Omaha shots on goal.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening when they return to the Covelli Centre in Youngstown to wrap up their weekend series with the Phantoms.
