Omaha Lancers News Release

Seth Ambroz tallied two goals and an assist while Dakota Eveland and Tom Craig chipped in a goal and an assist each as the Omaha Lancers dropped the Youngstown Phantoms 6-1 Sunday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in the first ever meeting between the Lancers and expansion Phantoms. With the win, Omaha improved to 30-12-3 on the year and is now in sole possession of first place in the West Division with 63 standings points.

The Lancers wasted little time grabbing the game's opening tally as just 50 seconds into the contest Dakota Eveland won a goal line scramble in tipping in his 14th goal of the season. Seth Ambroz grabbed the only assist on Omaha's league-leading 33rd first goal of the season. Omaha doubled the lead just over four minutes later when perfect tic-tac-toe passing below the goal line between Anthony Hamburg and Camden Wojtala led to Tom Craig's 4th goal of the season. The five-on-five even strength marker was netted 5:08 into the opening period of play. Youngstown made its only trip to the scoreboard midway through period one when Jefferson Dahl redirected Adam Berkle's shot from the left point for Dahl's team-leading 14th goal of the season. Tom Serrartore grabbed the secondary assist on the tally notched 9:01 into the period. The Lancers, however, regained their two-goal advantage late in period one when Craig's no-look pass from the right wing half boards found a streaking Ambroz down the slot who made no mistake in sending home his 15th goal of the season with just nine seconds left in the frame.

Omaha netted the only goal of period two when an a loose puck drifted back to the point where Dennis Brown stepped into a heavy wrist shot for his 4th marker of the season. The even strength marker was set up by the hard work down low by both Erik Haula and Colin Markison who assisted on the goal 12:22 into the middle stanza.

The Lancers put the contest away in the third period with a pair of goals. First, Ambroz grabbed his 2nd goal of the game and 16th of the season following a beautifully orchestrated 3-on-2 alongside Eveland and Greg Wolfe. Then, 10:40 into the final frame, Troy Power found a loose puck in the blue paint of the crease, which was easily pushed across the goal line for his 17th goal of the season and third marker in as many games. Haula and Matt White assisted on the final tally in the game.

Omaha's John Keeney improved to 3-1-1 on the year after needing just 17 saves on 18 Youngstown shots to register the victory. Meanwhile, Youngstown's Matt Mahalak fell to 8-13-2 on the year with just 22 saves on 28 Omaha shots.

The Lancers are back in action this coming Friday evening when they open up a weekend series at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown against the Phantoms.
