FRISCO, February 11, 2010 - NBA D-League Frisco Head Coach Nancy Lieberman will be a key component to NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas. Not only will the Hall-of-Famer play in the Celebrity All-Star Game, but she will also judge the D-League Slam Dunk Contest.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for the D-League to showcase the athleticism that is prevalent across the league," Lieberman said. "With the All-Star game in Dallas, it is a perfect opportunity for the people of the Metroplex to not only see great NBA talent, but also that of the D-League."

In Lieberman's 35 consecutive years of involvement with basketball, she has seen her share of dunks, and expects to be impressed as a judge.

"I'm going to be a tough judge," Lieberman commented. "With Spud Webb as our President of Basketball Operations with the Frisco team, I have a very high standard to which I'll be holding the participants. I don't want to have to call Spud to come lace up his sneakers again."

Webb, who is five-feet-six-inches tall, won the NBA Slam Dunk contest in 1986, the last time the event was held in Dallas.

The Slam Dunk Contest is part of the NBA Development League Dream Factory Friday Night. Lieberman said the Dunk Contest is a great chance for the D-League to show the NBA some of its great talent.

"The D-League is where fans can really interact with the future stars of the NBA," Lieberman said. "The dunks you will see in the D-League contest will be every bit as good as those in the NBA contest."

The four first-time Slam Dunk competitors include Tony Dandridge of the Albuquerque Thunderbird, the reigning champion of the NCAA Slam Dunk Contest. In that competition, Dandridge showcased his skills with a behind-the-back jam and by dunking two balls at once.

Deron Washington of the Tulsa 66ers, a 2008 second-round draft pick by the Detroit Pistons, joins Dandridge, as does Dar Tucker of the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

The fourth announced competitor, Bill Walker, will likely be unable to compete. Walker, a former Maine Red Claw, was called up to the Boston Celtics in early January, and is ineligible to compete in the Dunk Contest unless he is back on a D-League roster before the competition.

The Dunk Contest consists of two rounds of two dunks per competitor. Only the two competitors with the highest point tallies participate in the second round.

NBA.com will stream the Dunk Contest live Friday, Feb. 12 at 10 p.m. ET.
