Rox Add Infielder, Catcher To 2010 Roster

Brockton, Mass. - The Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League announced the signing of infielder Scott Wearne and catcher Al Profeet on Tuesday.

Wearne joins the Rox after spending the last few seasons playing in Australia. He played for the Victoria Aces in the 2010 Claxton Shield, the country's national baseball tournament, against Rox' pitchers Craig Anderson and Wayne Lundgren and as a teammate of former Rox' pitcher Donavon Hendricks. Wearne started all 24 of the club's games, hitting.320 with three home runs and 15 RBI as the Aces won the tournament championship.

Previously, he played collegiate baseball at Chipola (Fla.) College and at Nicholls State University, and was chosen in the 41st round of the 2001 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Profeet spent the 2009 with the El Paso Diablos of the American Association. The resident of Jamaica, N.Y., played collegiately at Western Oklahoma State, Norfolk State and Delaware Tech.

ROX PLAYERS MAKE THEIR MARK THROUGHOUT WINTER BASEBALL

- With the winter baseball season winding down, 38 Can-Am League players have played in various winter leagues, including eight former and current Brockton Rox players. The Puerto Rican and Venezuelan Leagues recently sent their league champions to the Caribbean Series, which was televised on MLB TV and features prospects from throughout minor- and major-league baseball.

Australia

- Claxton Shield

-LHP Craig Anderson (Brockton 2005, 2009) made two appearances for the New South Wales Patriots in Australia's national tournament, fanning four hitters in six innings of work without earning a run.

-LHP Donavon Hendricks (Brockton 2007) went 3-2 with a 5.48 ERA in 23 innings pitched for the Victoria Aces, the 2010 tournament champions.

-RHP Wayne Lundgren (Brockton 2006, 2008-2009) went 3-1 for New South Wales, leading the squad with eight appearances and finishing with a 3.02 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched.

-RHP Wayne Ough (Brockton 2005) earned a victory and did not allow a run in 6 1/3 innings pitched for South Australia, the tournament's runner-up.

Puerto Rican Winter League

-3B Phil Cuadrado (Brockton 2009) put together a.326 average to go along with four home runs and 20 RBI for the Arecibo Lobos.

Venezuelan Winter League

-3B Dennis Abreu (Brockton 2008) hit.299 with three home runs and 20 RBI for the Margarita Bravos.

-OF Alex Nunez (Brockton 2006) saw action for the Aragua Tigres, hitting.267 with a home run and seven RBI.

-1B/3B Eduardo Rios (Brockton 2008) appeared in 16 games for the Anzoategui Caribes, hitting a home run and driving in three runs.
