Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

The Ice Flyers knocked off the first place Havoc 3-1 Friday night in Pensacola. Lorne Misita added to his league-lead with his sixth shorthanded goal of the year, and Brian Deeth made two passes that led to goals in the victory.

The first period saw 24 shots between both teams but no goals. Mike MacDonald had the best opportunity of the frame when he had one man to beat at the top of the slot. After he deked the defender, Ryan Scott was the only thing preventing MacDonald from scoring. MacDonald was a few feet out of the crease when he fired, but Scott made a fantastic save to preserve the scoreless game. Huntsville would take a total of 15 shots in the first frame. Pensacola countered with nine, but not one of the shots would clear the goal line.

Three goals came in the second period, two from Pensacola. Huntsville marred the scoreboard first at 13:10 when Chris Myers used a powerplay to score his tenth goal of the year on an assist from Bill McCreary. Still shorthanded, Pensacola tied it back up under two minutes later. Lorne Misita made his league-leading sixth shorthanded strike from the right circle to tie the game up at 14:28.

With under a minute to go in the second period, Brian Deeth made a beautiful centering pass from the left corner. Dan Buccella was right in front the crease and popped the puck into the left side of the top shelf. Right after the shot, he delivered a vigorous check for good measure. The 2-1 Ice Flyers lead at 19:23 would hold into the second intermission.

Pensacola added to their lead when Matt Whitehead and Brian Deeth teamed up for a give-and-go right in front of Dan Earles in the crease. Whitehead ultimately scored and the Ice Flyers had a 3-1 cushion that would hold through the end of regulation. Ryan Scott continues to have the Havoc?s number as of late, deflecting 43 of 44 shots. Scott shutout Huntsville on January 26.
