Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

The Ice Flyers couldn't covert any of their seven powerplays and lost to the Ice Bears 6-2 on Thursday night in Pensacola. The Ice Flyers kept pace with Knoxville through the second period with the help of Lorne Misita's league-best fifth shorthanded goal. After the Ice Flyers trailed by one entering the third frame Knoxville put up three goals to secure win.

Powerplays would prove costly to the Ice Flyers in the first period. Knoxville gained a man advantage on a tripping penalty and capitalized: Kevin Harris drilled the puck in at 3:25 in the first period, dishing assists to Kevin Swider and Tim Vitek. About five minutes later, Pensacola tied the game up from the left corner. Kevin Galan had the puck three feet in front of the goal line near the base of the left faceoff circle. His shot went in and tied the game at 8:57. Lorne Misita and Kevin Kozlowski each earned an assist on the play.

Rallying back, the Ice Bears used another powerplay to retake the lead at 12:58. Donald Melnyk received the puck via BJ Pelkey and Jim Jenson and made the goalie miss to give Knoxville a 2-1 lead.

Neither team would score again until 11:10 in the second period, when a faceoff deep in Pensacola's zone led to a goal by Mike Kneeland. Points also went to Mike Bulawka and Frank Furdero for their efforts. With Knoxville up by two, Pensacola had to dig deep, especially falling victim to a penalty.

Enter Lorne Misita. Misita delivered his league-leading fifth shorthanded goal with a cannon from the top of the right circle. As the puck whizzed by Chad Collins, the Ice Flyers had pulled within one, a score that would hold into the second intermission.

However, the Ice Flyers would not score again, while Knoxville put up three more goals in the third period to seal the win. Segal, Hustead, and Swider all slipped the puck past Ryan Scott who ended the evening with 31 saves.
