Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
Traverse City MI-- The Traverse City Beach Bums have announced the addition of pitcher Richard Folmer to the 2010 roster.
Folmer, a 23-year old from Houston, Texas, joins the Beach Bums after spending last year with the Kansas City Royals organization after being drafted by the team in the 25th round of the 2009 draft. He made 25 combined minor league appearances last season, starting with the Arizona League's Arizona Royals before being promoted to the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League. The 6'3'', 210-pound right-handed reliever finished with a 1-2 record and a 4.36 ERA in 23 games out of the bullpen for the Chukars. He struck out 42 batters in 33.0 innings pitched and tied for the team lead with eight saves.
Folmer played collegiately at Stephen F. Austin University. In 97 career games for the Lumberjacks from 2006 to 2009, he had a 9-10 record and 21 saves. During his senior season, Folmer had a team-leading 12 saves and held opposing batters to a.162 batting average against him.
"We are lucky to add a pitcher with Folmer's talent to our staff," said Beach Bums' Director of Baseball Operations, Jason Wuerfel. "He is a strikeout pitcher and has a great deal of experience as a closer. Having a guy with his ability as an option late in games is a big advantage for our squad, and we expect great things out of him this summer."
The Traverse City Beach Bums are entering their fifth season of play in 2010, with the home opener scheduled for Friday, May 28th versus the Oakland County Cruisers. The Beach Bums will play 54 of their 96 games at home in 2010. Season tickets are now on sale -- please phone 231-943-0100.
