Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Crew announced today that it has named Mike Tremble, CSCS, its new strength & fitness coach. Tremble joins the Crew from Boston University's athletic department, where he served as a strength and conditioning graduate assistant coach for programs including men's soccer. He previously served as strength and conditioning coach for the Western Mass Pioneers of the United Soccer Leagues Second Division in 2007.
Tremble fills the role vacated by Steve Tashjian, who departed last season to join Everton Football Club of the English Premier League.
"We are very pleased to welcome Mike to our staff," said Crew head coach Robert Warzycha said. "He is an enthusiastic guy who has the qualities we were looking for in a strength & fitness coach, including a strong soccer background. It is an important role and we will be relying on his expertise throughout the season."
Tremble was responsible for designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for BU's women's golf and men's and women's swimming and diving programs, in addition to men's soccer. While there, he worked toward his Master's of Education, with a concentration in coach education, and he is expected to complete course work toward his Master's degree this spring. He earned his undergraduate degree in Applied Exercise Science at Springfield College (Mass.).
"I am both humbled and excited to have the opportunity to work at this level, with a coach of Robert Warzycha's caliber and character," Tremble said. "Even in the limited time I've been able to spend with him, his wonderful staff and the players, I can tell that they are excellent professionals on the field and seem to be great people off it. I look forward to the challenge of helping the club achieve its goals."
Tremble also served as a strength and conditioning intern with the University of Texas basketball program from 2007-08. Additional experience includes serving as a performance trainer for Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning in Boston, where he was responsible for coaching group-based training sessions on a daily basis, and as a research trainer for a Springfield College Chronic Kidney Disease study.
Founded by American sports pioneer Lamar Hunt, the Columbus Crew is Ohio's Major League Soccer club, anchoring a diverse sports and entertainment enterprise. One of the league's Charter Members, it won its first MLS Cup Championship in 2008 and has also won the 2002 U.S. Open Cup championship and MLS Supporters' Shield titles in 2004, 2008 and 2009. It is entering its 15th season overall and 12th in first-of-its-kind Columbus Crew Stadium.
