CORPUS CHRISTI - Got plans for spring break?
Three of college baseball's storied programs join Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the Fifth Whataburger College Classic, March 12-14 at Whataburger Field, home of the Corpus Christi Hooks.
Mississippi State. Oklahoma. UCLA. They add up to 77 NCAA tournament appearances and 19 trips to the College World Series. The Sooners won national championships in 1951 and 1994 and finished 18th nationally last season.
The Bruins and Sooners are 20th and 25th, respectively, by Collegiate Baseball newspaper in its preseason rankings. Mississippi State received votes.
The first four Whataburger College Classics have featured top-ranked Rice and Arizona and ranked and renowned teams like Arizona State, TCU, Texas Tech, Notre Dame and South Alabama. Whataburger and the Hooks have created an annual opportunity for fans to see elite college competition and get their baseball fix a month before the Texas League season begins.
"The College Classic has a history of bringing top-notch college baseball and passionate competition to the Coastal Bend. We're proud to support these players and know Corpus Christi sports fans enjoy the atmosphere and excitement of the tournament," said Rob Rodriguez, Regional Director of Operations for Whataburger Restaurants, LP. "We extend a warm South Texas welcome to the visiting teams and are ready to kick off the baseball season."
"This will be a showcase of three of the country's best and an important measuring stick for Scott Malone and the Islanders," Hooks president Ken Schrom said. "TAMUCC believes in playing the best and great representation from the SEC, Big 12 and Pac-10 will be compelling for fans of all ages in the Coastal Bend."

RAISE MONEY FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION: As has been the case since its inception in 2006, the Whataburger College Classic drives fundraising by clubs, associations and organizations. A unique and simple plan enables their members to sell tickets on consignment and keep half the proceeds.
