Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Five and Dime

The Waterloo Black Hawks won five games in a ten day period from January 8th through 17th. During the six games they played, Waterloo outscored opponents 25-11 and moved from being one point out of the USHL Eastern Division basement to holding a playoff spot by one point. Over the two weekends, Tyler Barnes led the team in scoring, averaging two points per game, with five goals and seven assists.

Shutouts Well Scattered

With C.J. Groh's 39 save performance at Tri City last Friday, three different Waterloo Black Hawks have recorded a shutout this season. C.J. Motte has blanked opponents twice, while Steve Racine halted Lincoln in November. The Omaha Lancers are the only other USHL club to have three goalies earn shutouts this season. No other edition of the Black Hawks has had three goalies whitewash opponents in the same year.

At Their Best

Three veteran Waterloo Black Hawks matched their best USHL performances last weekend. With a goal and two assists Friday, Patrick Divjak had three points in a game for the first time this season, after doing it three times in two years with the Sioux Falls Stampede. Dan Sova had three points in a game twice last year and picked up three assists Sunday. Tyler Barnes also had a big afternoon Sunday with two goals and two assists. Earlier this year Barnes enjoyed back-to-back four-point games on November 7th and 13th.

Season Series Summaries

Sunday's match-up against the Tri City Storm completed the schedule of games that the two clubs play against each other in 2009-2010. The Hawks won three of four. Saturday, Waterloo will play its final scheduled game against the Omaha Lancers. By contrast, the Hawks won't see Sioux City for the first time until February.
