Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Hawks Get High Marks

Two current Waterloo Black Hawks have kept the attention of NHL Central Scouting and earned a spot on the department's Midterm Rankings released Monday. Nick Sorkin and Scott Wamsganz were both on Central Scouting's preseason Watch List of USHL players in November. Sorkin graded 130th among North American skaters eligible for this summer's draft, while Wamsganz came in 174th based on Monday's update.

Three-in-Three Sweep

The Hawks made the most of their opportunity to meet divisional opponents on three consecutive days last week. With three wins, Waterloo climbed within two points of the Eastern Division's final playoff spot. It was the first time the Black Hawks have won three regular season games in three days since March 28-30, 2008. During that late-season streak, they defeated Sioux Falls 3-0, Indiana 3-1, and Sioux Falls again 7-3.

Young Defensemen Deliver

Cody von Rueden and Jacob MacDonald were not on the Black Hawks' opening night roster, but both have found a home in Waterloo based on their play since joining the team. Seventeen-year-old von Rueden had three assists in six games as an affiliate player before being added to the regular roster last week. MacDonald, just 16 until February, recorded his first two assists Saturday and is +3 in six games.

Getting By the First Goal

The other team has scored first in three of the last five Black Hawks games, but Waterloo has earned at least a point in each one, with a 2-0-1 record. Prior to the past two weeks, the Hawks were only 2-9-1 when the other team recorded the first goal. An important factor to turning around a slow start has been rallying quickly; when Waterloo has won under these circumstances, the Hawks have not been down by more than one at intermission.
