Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

The Knoxville Ice Bears suffered a hard loss on the road last night against the Fayetteville FireAntz, but they were the first to put a point on the board tonight as they took at the Columbus Cottonmouths. Forward David Segal scored his fifth goal of the season seven minutes into the first period, with the assist being credited to Tim Vitek and Donald Melnyk. The Ice Bears struggled on defense late in the period allowing the Cottonmouths to score two goals in the last minute.

While the second period was scoreless it was packed with action - and penalties. The Cottonmouths had six penalties called against them, including a game misconduct by Columbus' Ryan McCarthy. Even though the Ice Bears only committed two penalties, neither team was able to capitalize on their power play opportunities.

Ice Bears forward Mike Bulawka tied the game in the third to send it into overtime, and defenseman Mark Van Vliet scored the winning goal in overtime. Don Melnyk finished the night with a "playmaker", which is three assists.
