Daytona Tortugas News Release
Daytona Beach - The Chicago Cubs have announced the coaches for all of their minor league affiliates, and the Daytona Cubs, for the second consecutive year, will be managed by Buddy Bailey. Former major league outfielder Richie Zisk returns as the club's hitting coach for the fifth-straight season and his 21st in the organization. Tom Pratt will be the pitching coach in Daytona for the second straight season and Bob Grimes will serve as the team's athletic trainer.
Buddy Bailey led the Daytona Cubs to a 34-33 mark in the first half of the 2009 season. Promotions and trades hurt the team in the second half as they finished the year with an overall record of 64-71. Bailey, who has been a minor league manager for 20 years and with the Cubs since 2006, previously worked in Boston's and Atlanta's organization.
Richie Zisk returns for his 12th stint as hitting coach of the Daytona Cubs. Zisk helped mold one of the league's best hitters in 2009. Shortstop Starlin Castro, at just 19 years old, batted.302, good for third in the Florida State League. Castro was a mid-season and post-season All-Star.
Tom Pratt will begin his fourth season as Daytona's pitching coach in 2010. Pratt led the 2009 pitching staff to the third best ERA, 3.44, in the FSL. The team's 13 shutouts were second to only Brevard County. The Cubs also threw two combined no-hitters in a span of 13 days in August.
The Cubs will open the 2010 season on the road April 8th at Brevard County before returning to Daytona for the home-opener on April 9th. Get your tickets today by calling the Daytona Cubs at 386-257-3172.
