Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
Two former Ice Pilots will be on the ice for the Pensacola Ice Flyers' Saturday, December 19 game against the Mississippi Surge. The 7:05 game will feature former team captain Chad Quenneville and Scott Malone in a relay race to support youth hockey in northwest Florida.
Chad Quenneville played for the Ice Pilots from 1996-1999 and served as team captain. The center boasted 93 goals over those three seasons and 134 assists. After his playing days, Quenneville was inducted into the Ice Pilots Hall of Fame.
"It's great to have ice back in Pensacola with the Ice Flyers," Quenneville expressed. "We're happy to be a part of the youth program." Quenneville is assisting coach Curtis Dunlap with the Mini-Mites (ages 4-5) and coach Nick Skelton with the Pee-Wees (ages 11-12). "We're looking forward to building on the youth program in correlation with the Ice Flyers," Quenneville said.
Scott Malone played for 12 different teams during his professional career, including 1997-1998 with the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Malone is coaching both the Bantam and Midget level Junior Ice Flyers teams and will be a part of intermission festivities on the December 19 Ice Flyers game.
The game will feature the Junior Ice Flyers during both intermissions. The Mini-Mites will scrimmage during the first, and a relay race will take place in the second intermission with representatives from every age level. All Junior Ice Flyers are part of the Northwest Florida Hockey League.
"Chad and Scott are going to be in the relay races to show Pensacola that former Ice Pilots still care about the community," explained Michael Olson, NFHL President. "The Junior Ice Flyers program is great fun for the kids, and the mini-mites scrimmage should be a lot of fun too. We're looking forward to a great time on Saturday."
Chuck-a-Puck fans need not worry; the popular puck-throwing promotion will still take place in the second intermission with $100 waiting to be won.
Fans can warm up their arms before the second intermission with the Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game, and following the Ice Flyers' first goal, throw the teddy bears on the ice. Team officials will collect the bears and members of the Ice Flyers will deliver the bears to the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital at 10 a.m. on December 22.
Tickets are still available at the Civic Center Box Office, or online via ticketmaster.com. Groups of ten or more can receive a group rate by calling (850) 466-3111, or emailing jeff@pensacolaiceflyers.com.
