Gatineau Tops Montreal in High-Scoring Affair

Montreal, December 13th, 2009 - The Montreal Juniors looked to extend their winning streak to three games as they had a Sunday afternoon showdown against the Gatineau Olympiques. It was a high scoring match as Gatineau defeated Montreal 8 to 6. Alexandre Quesnel, Steven Delisle (2 goals), Alexandre Leduc, Denis Kindl, Mitchell Porowski, Vincent Barnard, and Tye McGinn contributed the eight Olympique goals. Pier-Antoine Dion, Matthew Brenton, Guillaume Asselin (2 goals), Chris Thorne, and Jeremy Gouchie tallied for the Juniors.

The Olympiques striked first as Alexandre Quesnel and Steven Delisle scored two power play goals at 4:41 and 15:25 of the first. The Juniors responded when Pier-Antoine Dion notched his tenth of the year at 17:32 from Eliezer Sherbatov.

The Olympiques extended the lead early in the second period. Alexandre Leduc and Denis Kindl each scored their tenth of season at 1:28 and 2:26 respectively. Mitchell Porowski added another one for the Olympiques at 4:18. Despite being down by four goals, the Juniors did not back down. Montreal responded with four unanswered goals by Matthew Brenton, Guillaume Asselin, Chris Thorne, and Jeremy Gouchie in a span of eight minutes to even the score. Yet, the Olympiques took the lead again when Steven Delisle scored a shorthanded goal, his second of the game, at 19:40.

In the third, the Olympiques had more firepower left as Vincent Barnard Tye McGinn scored and extended Gatineau's lead to three goals. Guillaume Asselin scored again late in third, but that was not enough for the Juniors as they were defeated by the Olympiques by the final score of 8 to 6.

Montreal goalie Jean-Francois Berube stopped 32/39 shots in the loss. Gatineau goaltender Maxime Clermont made 23/29 saves in the win. The Juniors now have a record of 16-16-0-2 while the Olympiques' record is 18-13-0-3.

The Montreal Juniors will head north as they visit the Val-d'Or Foreurs, Thursday, December 17th. They will go back to Gatineau again to face the Olympiques on December 28th. The Juniors return to Montreal when they face the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday, December 30th, at 7:35PM.
