Sioux Falls ends the Force streak

The Sioux Falls Stampede made the trip to Fargo to take on the Force for a semi-rare Wednesday night tilt. The Force came in red hot, riding a six game winning streak, and only one point behind the Stampede in the West Division of the United States Hockey League. The Stampede scored four times in the first period en route to a convincing 5-0 win, ending the Fargo winning streak.

Sam Coatta started the scoring less than three minutes into the opening frame. Coatta skated across the neutral ice after grabbing a pass from Anthony Day. After sneaking inside the blue line on a one-on-two, Coatta fired the puck on goal and beat Force netminder Cody Campbell to the blocker side to make it 1-0. A minute and a half later, Matt Bailey extended the lead on the power play. Day ripped a shot on goal and Campbell jumped to make a chest save, but the rebound went right to Bailey, who pounded it home for a 2-0 lead. Ryan Misiak beat Campbell five-hole at the 8:31 mark to extend the lead to 3-0. Campbell, who has struggled all year long, was then yanked in favor of newcomer Ryan Massa. Campbell stopped just three of six shots in his brief start.

With 51 seconds left in the opening period, Matt Zarbo beat Massa to push the Sioux Falls lead to four. The period was more even than the scoring showed. Each team fired 11 shots on goal, the difference was, the Stampede took advantage of every opportunity they had.
