Kevin West is heading south.Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that the Cincinnati Reds have signed outfielder Kevin West. He becomes the 58th member of the Goldeyes to move on to organized ball after playing in Winnipeg.
West, 29, leaves town following two seasons in a Winnipeg uniform. He batted.300 in 188 games for the Goldeyes with 37 home runs and 140 runs batted in. He was also rock solid in the post-season, batting.400 (12/30) in nine playoff games.
Prior to playing in Winnipeg, West spent a season in the Texas system following seven as Minnesota property.
Under Forney's watch, the Goldeyes have seen 16 players picked up by Major League clubs. West joins Adam Frost (Kansas City) and Daniel Haigwood (Oakland) as members of the 2009 squad that returned to organized ball after playing in Winnipeg. Pitcher Dan DeLucia was scooped up by Toronto on April 30, one day before training camp opened.
