Legends' Lyles Named Astros Organization Pitcher Of The Year

Lexington Legends' right-hander Jordan Lyles has been named pitcher of the year in the Houston Astros' organization.

Lyles, who turned 19 in October, was a supplemental first round draft choice (38th overall pick) in 2008, and was with the Legends for the entire 2009 season. He had a record of seven wins and 11 losses, but struck out 167 batters, good for third in the South Atlantic League and fourth in minor league baseball. The 167 strikeouts also set a new Legends' single-season record. Lyles struck out 10 or more batters in four games, and walked only 38 in 144 and 2/3 innings while compiling an earned run average of 3.24.

Former Legend Koby Clemens was named offensive player of the year. Playing for advanced-A Lancaster, Clemens led the California League in hitting with a batting average of.345 and in RBI with 121. He hit 22 home runs.
