Goldeyes Acquire All-Star Eggleston

November 24, 2009 - Northern League (NL) Winnipeg Goldeyes

With their fans still enjoying almost baseball-like weather in Winnipeg, the Goldeyes have signed their first player for 2010 and what a big signing it is.

Manager Rick Forney announced today the acquisition of two-time Northern League all-star outfielder Aharon (erin) Eggleston from the Kansas City T-Bones for pitcher Andrew Cruse and a player to be named later.

Eggleston, 28, spent the last three seasons with the T-Bones and was a big factor when Kansas City won the 2008 NL championship. A post-season all-star that year, he was an all-star again this year after batting a team-high.318 while becoming the only player in NL history to lead the league in hits in consecutive seasons.

A career.317 hitter in five independent seasons, Eggleston broke into baseball with Edmonton in 2005 out of NCAA Div. II Southern Arkansas. Following two seasons with the Cracker-Cats, he was dealt to Kansas City in 2007, where he suited up for the T-Bones in his first of two-straight NL all-star games.

Cruse, 25, played one season with Winnipeg following time in the Philadelphia system. He went 5-5 with a 4.58 ERA this year for the Goldeyes, spending most of the season in the starting rotation after beginning the year in the bullpen.

FISH FOOD: As of Tuesday morning, fewer than 30 spots remained for the Goldeyes Holiday Skills Camp for boys and girls ages 7 to 12 set for Saturday, December 19 at the Duckworth Centre.
