ContentMoose Jaw Warriors @ Regina PatsTonight 7:00pm Brandt Centre
Head To Head:
This is the 3rd of 8 meetings this season between the Warriors and the Pats. The last time they met was in early October at the Moose Jaw Civic Centre, with the Warriors skating to the 9-6 win. Brendan Rowinski led the way with 4 assists while Quinton Howden picked up a goal and 3 helpers. The key to the game was specialty teams as the Warriors went 5/8 on the power play, while the Pats were 2/4.
Last Action:
The Pats continue to roll on their home stand with their fourth win in a row 4-2 over the Prince George Cougars. If it wasn't for Cougar goaltender Hudson Stremmel's 42 save performance, it could have been a lot worse for the Cougars. Jordan Eberle led the way for the Pats with three assists.
Subway Super Series:
Jordan Eberle and Colten Teubert will be playing for Team WHL in the upcoming Subway Super Series against team Russia on Wednesday, November 25th in Victoria. This will be the third year in a row that the pair has played in this series, which was previously called the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge
Defensive Scoring:
3 of the Pats top ten scorers man the Pats blue line with Colten Teubert and Brandon Davidson leading the defencemen in scoring with 15 points while Matt Delahey has 9 points.
Important Stretch:
From October 20th against the Raiders to November 15th in Brandon, 10 of the 12 games for the Pats will come against Eastern Divisional rivals, 5 at home and 5 on the road. After this stretch of games, the Pats will play 15 of their next 18 on the road (because of Agribition and the World Junior Hockey Championships).
Borstmayer to U-17's:
The SHA, along with Hockey Manitoba, announced the Team West roster for the upcoming World U-17 Hockey Challenge from December 29th to January 4th and Tyler Borstmayer will be a part of their defensive core.
New Addition:
This week, the Pats added 17 year old forward Tyler Parker to the roster. The Livermore, Ca. product spent last season with the Everett Silvertips and started this season with Wenatchee in the NAHL. He will not be in the line-up tonight.
More than just the top line:
Head Coach, Curtis Hunt, may have finally found the right line combination over the past three games. The second, third, and even fourth lines are starting to contribute. Jason Gardiner scored his first two goals of the season on last Friday night against Saskatoon, Garrett Mitchell notched his first of the season against Medicine Hat, while Graham Hood, Killian Hutt have also found the back of the net this past week.
Small Stature, Big stick:
Just a few years ago, it was the big players who dominated the WHL top ten scorers in the WHL, in 2009-10 that is not the case. As of this weekend, of the top 10 scorers, just two (Tyler Shattock 6'3" and Derek Hulak 6'1") are 6'0"+ while the rest of the top ten (Brandon Kozun 5'9", Brendan Shinnimin 5'10", Jordan Eberle 5'10", Willie Coetzee 5'10", Bretton Cameron 5'11", Jason Bast 5'10" Craig Cunningham 5'10" Cody Eakin 5'11") are all 5'11' and under.
