Portland Pirates News Release

The Pirates split their two games over the weekend, posting a shutout victory against Hershey before being handed their second home loss of the season by Springfield. Portland, now 5-9 on the season, is on the road playing Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, then traveling to Buffalo to play Rochester at the HSBC Arena on Thursday and traveling for a Sunday game against Bridgeport.

The Pirates played the final two games of their four-game home stand this past weekend, opening with a 5-0 shutout against the Hershey Bears. J.P. Lamoureux turned aside 28 shots for his first career American Hockey League shutout Friday night at the CCCC in front of 6,621 fans. Kyle Wanvig, Jeff Cowan, Derek Whitmore, Travis Turnbull and Mark Mancari scored for the Pirates while Philip Gogulla collected two assists. Turnbull's goal was the first of his AHL career and Mancari's goal extended his point- scoring streak to seven games (3-5-8).

On Sunday the Pirates faced the Springfield Falcons home and lead 1-0 after the first period thanks to Gogulla's second of the year. However the Falcons scored twice in the opening six minutes of the second period to erase the deficit and complete the scoring on their way to a 2-1 victory. The Pirates outshot the Falcons 40-21 in the game, including 19-2 in the third period, as Lamoureux started and took the loss.
