Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

The Columbus Cottonmouths improved their record to 4-2 Saturday night after defeating the Pensacola Ice Flyers 7-4 in Florida. The loss dropped the Ice Flyers to 4-2 as well.

Columbus jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the seventh minute of play. Dan Leslie scored unassisted at 6:12 and Tim Green notched a goal at 6:42 with the help of Jeff Martens.

The first period appeared to be all Snakes until Tony Monte scored for the Ice Flyers nine seconds before the intermission. Erik Stoyanovich picked up a point on the play.

Four Columbus goals scored in the second period. Joey Martini scored twice, Martens picked up his second point of the night with a goal of his own, and Jesse Cole found the net as well. Pensacola was unable to respond until the third period.

Down 6-1 to start the final period of play, the Ice Flyers made a game of it by scoring three times. Trevor Karsiewicz scored back to back goals, the first via Taylor Hustead, and the second with the help of Kevin Galan and Jesse Baraniuk. Anthony Monte evaded the goalie at 17:04, and Joe DeBello and Rob Cambell acquired assists. The momentum was stymied, however, when Jason Slusher scored an empty net goal off a pass from his goalie, Chad Rycroft, five seconds before the final horn.

Pensacola scored two power play goals in eight chances, and Columbus had two power play goals in six opportunities.

The Ice Flyers will return to their home ice on Thursday when they host the Huntsville Havoc at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are still available via the Civic Center Box Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
