Kadri Carries Knights to a Win
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, Nazem Kadri carried the Knights to a win on Friday October 30th, 2009. The 600, 175 lb, London native scored twice, added an assist and defended a teammate with a scrap as the London Knights defeated the Oshawa Generals 7-4. first period remained scoreless. Londons Leigh Salters and Oshawas Victor Terreri got into a late first period fight as they attempted to give their respective teams some energy. Nazem Kadri fed off this energy as he scored his 6th goal of the season early in the second period. Jared Knight and Michael DOrazio added an assist. Jared Knight scored his 7th goal of the season from Michael MacDonald and Scott Harrington, giving the Knights a 2-0 lead at 4:58. The Knights continued to dominate as Leigh Salters took advantage of an Oshawa turnover behind the net and banged his own rebound past Michael Zador at 5:37. Former London Knight, Scott Valentine put the Generals on the board, scoring his first goal of the season from Nick Esposto at 9:57. Nazem Kadri continued to dominate as he scored his 2nd goal of the game on the power play from Philip McRae at 14:07. The Knights held a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. Swedish defenceman Kalle Ekelund scored his first goal in the Ontario Hockey League, assisted by Daniel Erlich and Tucker Hunter at 2:15 of the third period. Oshawa rookie, Jimmy McDowell followed by scoring his first goal in the Ontario Hockey League on the power play from Christian Thomas. Londons Michael MacDonald responded quickly by backhanding his own rebound past Michael Zador. Nazem Kadri added an assist. Tony DeHart and Kyle Hope sprung Andy Andreoff who went one-on-one with Knights goalie Michael Hutchinson. Andreoff put the puck past Hutchinson for his 6th goal of the season. Following the Oshawa goal, Jimmy McDowell scored his second of the game at 14:50. Conor Stokes assisted the Generals goal. San Jose prospect Phil Varone scored the 7th goal of the game at 15:33. This is Varones second goal of the year and his first since the Knights home opener.
London netminder Michael Hutchinson faced 30 shots and Oshawa goalie Michael Zador faced 58 shots in a 7-4 final that favoured the Knights. The Knights accumulated 30 penalty minutes and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Generals accumulated 32 penalty minutes and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Londons First Shootout Loss of the Season
The London Knights faced their first shootout loss of the season on Sunday November 1st 2009. Following 60 minutes of regulation, 5 minutes of overtime and 8 rounds of shootouts, Michael Houser recorded his first loss of the season. Londons rookie goaltender is still undefeated in regulation.
Londons Michael MacDonald scored the first goal of the game for the Knights at 11:39 of the first period. Garett Hunter and Dominic DeSando assisted. Guelphs Adam Comrie scored his 6th of the season on the power play from Taylor Beck and Matt Kennedy. The Knights outshot Guelph 12-5 in the first period. Knights forward Philip McRae opened the second period by scoring his 5th goal of the season assisted by Michael DOrazio and Steven Tarasuk at 4:25. Nazem Kadri put the puck past Guelph netminder Matt Hoyle to put the Knights up 3-1. Kalle Ekelund and Phil Varone provided the assists. Shortly after, Guelph forward Matt Kennedy scored his 8th of the season on the power play at 16:05. Corey Syvret and Taylor Beck assisted. Taylor Beck followed with his 11th goal of the season late in the second period to tie the game. Mathew Sisca assisted. The third period remained scoreless. After 5 minutes of overtime, the game was forced into a shootout match. The Knights went 1-for-9 in the shootout. Londons lone shootout goal came from their third shooter, Jared Knight as he beat Guelphs netminder Matt Hoyle. Conor Tresham and Adam Comrie scored in the shootout to give Guelph a win. This is the third time in two seasons that the Knights have given up a shootout loss to Guelph.
The Knights outshot Guelph 37-19. The Knights went 0-for-5 on the power play and Guelph went 2-for-3.
