Bridgeport, CT -- Greg Mauldin scored two goals, including the game-winner 2:10 into overtime, and Jesse Joensuu added two assists to lead the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators Monday afternoon at the Arena at Harbor Yard. With the win, the Sound Tigers remain undefeated, improving to 4-0-0-0 on the season.
After a scoreless first period, Brian Lee put the Senators on top one minute into the second. Lee took a pass from Denis Hamel and blasted a shot past a screened Scott Munroe for his first tally of the season.
The Sound Tigers tied the game at the 4:52 mark when Greg Mauldin tracked down a loose puck in the offensive zone, drove to the net and back-handed the puck into the top of the goal. The tie was short-lived however, as Ryan Keller scored his third goal of the year just 30 seconds later to make it 2-1. Munroe turned aside an initial shot by Hamel, but Keller crashed the net and poked home the loose rebound.
Tomas Kudelka was whistled for tripping midway through the third period, giving the Sound Tigers a power-play chance to score the tying goal. Andrew MacDonald and Trevor Smith both had open shots, but both rang pucks off the cross-bar. Smith redeemed himself by tying the game with 5:10 remaining in regulation. After Brett Wesgarth's blast from the point ricocheted off a Senator defenseman, Smith hurried to the side of the net to pick up the loose puck and jam it inside the right post.
Mauldin's game winner was set-up by a head-long feed from Joensuu. Mauldin snagged the pass at the bottom of the face-off circles, skated in and snapped a shot over Brodeur's glove and under the cross-bar to give the Sound Tigers the victory.
The Senators held a 31-29 advantage in shots on goal. Munroe made 29 saves for the Sound Tigers to earn the victory.
The Sound Tigers are back in action Saturday when they host the Norfolk Admirals at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm. For tickets, please call 203-334-GOAL.
