Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced on Monday that Haymarket Park, the home of the Lincoln Saltdogs, is the 2009 recipient of the league's "Best Playing Field" award. The honor, which is voted on by the league's managers and media representatives, encompasses all aspects of the ballpark. Haymarket Park has earned the award in each of its nine years in existence, including each of the American Association's first four seasons.

"Even though we've received this award nine years in a row, it's still an honor that we hold in high regard," said Saltdogs General Manager Tim Utrup. "We have high standards for our entire operation, and we take a lot of pride in the work that goes into making Haymarket Park one of the premier facilities in all of professional baseball. We're also particularly proud of the fact that this award is voted on by the field managers and media reps, since those are the people that make their living at ballparks all season long.

"Once again, I want to congratulate Josh Klute, Dave Aschwege and their staffs for the job they've done this year in maintaining the entire facility. They're part of the tradition that makes Haymarket Park one of the best places for baseball in the country."

Klute is in his fourth year as the Athletic Turf Manager at Haymarket Park; he was assisted in 2009 by J.J. Borecky, Jennifer Roeber and Dave Smith. Aschwege is in his first year as the Director of Stadium Operations; he was assisted this season by Brett Myers.

"This wouldn't have been possible without the great work that Jen, J.J., Dave and the rest of field staff put in," said Klute. "Each year it gets harder to win this award, due to the number of events out here and the expanding knowledge of turf management around the league. I appreciate the support I receive from the Saltdogs front office by them understanding the time and effort it takes to properly maintain a playing surface at a high level. We take unbelievable pride in our job and this is something that rewards us for our hard work."

During the 2009 season, the Lincoln Saltdogs and Haymarket Park ranked fourth in attendance in the American Association, with a total of 172,445 fans over 47 home dates.
